Fabry-Perot Interferometers (FPI) Remote Sensing of the Upper Atmosphere
The following data pertains to the collected atmospheric data of HAO FPI project from 2003 to 2016 at locations in Boulder, CO; Resolute Bay, Canada; and Palmer Station, Antarctica. The goal is to study the upper atmosphere and ionosphere by using mesospheric and thermospheric wind data from Doppler remote sensing of nightglow emissions of OH (892 nm at 87 km) and O (557.7 nm at 97 km and 630 nm at 250km) at these three sites.
The Palmer project is supported by a National Science Foundation Grant OPP 0839119, which is an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) project. The Resolute FPI project was supported by the National Science Foundation Grant AGS 1339918. The Boulder FPI project is supported by National Science Foundation funding to NCAR.
Logistical support for the Palmer Station FPI is provided by the US Antarctic Program (USAP).
The instrument is constructed by National Center for Atmospheric Research, High Altitude Observatory Instrumentation Group. NCAR is supported by the National Science Foundation.
Palmer station supporting crew and then contactor Raytheon designed and built a separate room in the Terralab at Palmer station to house the Fabry-Perot interferometer.
The instrument is maintained by Palmer station research associates.
