Project Clambake Surface Wind Analysis at Palestine, Texas

The Field Observing Facility of NCAR measured surface winds at the NCAR Scientific Balloon Flight Station at Palestine, Texas, during October and November 1965 in order to gather data regarding the possibility of using a clam-shaped inflation shelter during the launching of large balloons when wind speed exceeds 10kt. This document reports the data collected which leads to the conclusion that there is no coherent eddy structure in the required size range to enable the necessary forecasting of occasional wind lulls.
