Mesoscale Adjoint Modeling System: Version 1

This technical note serves several purposes. In Part I, the development of adjoints is described in general terms for spatially and temporally discrete models. In Part II, the nonlinear, tangent linear, and adjoint equations are described. The software is described in Part III. A user's guide containing essential instructions for running and interpreting the software appears in Part IV. Some of the execution characteristics of the software and its testing methodologies are described in Part V. A brief description of the MAMS1 post-processor appears in Part VI. Several tables and additional information appear in the Appendices.
