DLR Lauder Rayleigh-Raman Lidar Data

This dataset contains DLR Lauder Rayleigh-Raman Lidar Data. The DLR Rayleigh-/Raman lidar measures atmospheric backscatter profiles from 22 to approximately 90 km altitude. Temperature profiles are retrieved assuming only molecular scattering and hydrostatic equilibrium. Stratospheric aerosols may be present up to 32 km altitude, causing errors in the temperature retrieval below. These errors are not included in the standard error provided with the temperature data set. Use temperature profiles below 32 km with caution and contact the PI! The lidar was set up at the atmospheric research station of the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research in Lauder (45.04 S, 169.68 E), New Zealand, in June 2014. Routine observations were carried out between 25 June and 3 November 2014. In the period 19-25 June the lidar data acquisition system malfunctioned and retrieved temperature profiles show an artificial non-linear gradient above 60 km altitude. For this reason, data are not included in the initial submission to the data archive, but are available on request. The lidar was run in total for 754 hours, with 552 hours of good temperature data. Please contact the PI before using the data for publications in any form. These data are in NetCDF format.
