Abstract

This data set contains Level-II WSR-88D radar data from the Twin Lakes, OK (KTLX) site in central Oklahoma (35.33N and 97.278W) during periods the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (SDSMT) T-28 aircraft flew for the Joint Polarization Experiment (JPOLE) and the Thunderstorm Electrification and Lightning Experiment (TELEX) field projects. Data are included for the following periods: 16 May 2003: 15:26 - 19:24 UTC 19 May 2003: 19:08 - 23:58 UTC 23 May 2003: 00:05 - 17:29 UTC 01 June 2003: 17:36 - 23:42 UTC 04 June 2003: 09:48 - 23:01 UTC 05 June 2003: 10:33 - 23:59 UTC 06 June 2003: 00:02 - 12:24 UTC 07 June 2003: 15:47 - 23:57 UTC 08 June 2003: 00:04 - 16:08 UTC 09 June 2003: 14:12 - 23:59 UTC 10 June 2003: 00:08 - 23:56 UTC 11 June 2003: 00:00 - 00:45 UTC The NEXRAD Level II data are the three meteorological base data quantities: reflectivity, mean radial velocity, and spectrum width. Depending on the volume coverage pattern in use, the data resolution varies (five, six or ten minutes). A data file consists of a 24 byte volume scan header record followed by numerous 2432 byte base data and message records.
