Abstract

Constant-level "smart" balloons were used to track air masses during the ACE-1 multi-flight lagrangian missions by Steve Businger and Mark Geldmeier (U of Hawaii). These balloons were released from the R/V Discoverer and transmitted position and meteorological data to receiving equipment on the C-130 aircraft. This dataset consist of four balloon flights during the last two lagrangian missions. The data contain balloon number, time (UTC), GPS location, atmospheric pressure, air temperature, relative humidity, and a number of balloon housekeeping parameters.
