Taiwan Area Mesoscale Experiment: Daily Operations Summary
The Taiwan Area Mesoscale Experiment, TAMEX, is a research program undertaken by scientist from the Republic of China and the United States to improve, through enhanced understanding, the forecasting of heavy precipitation events that lead to flash floods. This report is intended to provide researchers with a brief description of the facilities that operated in the field, a daily summary of weather conditions and an overview of the scientific objectives and operations during the 13 IOPs. Section 2.0 contains a summary of the IOPs that researchers can use as a quick reference to determine what operations took place during the program. Section 3.0 gives a brief overview of the different facilities that operated in the field, and some of the data recording characteristics of that facility. This section is divided into five categories: 1) upper-air, 2) surface mesonetwork, 3) radars, 4) VHF wind Profiler, and 5) aircraft. Section 4.0 presents an overview of the daily meteorological conditions and summaries of scientific objectives, operations, and data collected during IOPs. Section 5.0 discusses the data archiving and data management for the program. Appendix A provides the location of the observational systems that operated in the field.
