Title

Measurements inside Oklahoma thunderstorms during Project SESAME

Abstract

This report presents the state parameter and hydrometeor measurements obtained with the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (SDSMT) T-28 aircraft within Oklahoma convective clouds during the Severe Environmental Storms and Mesocale Experiment (SESAME) field season in 1979. In the sections which follow, complete sets of hydrometeor and state parameter data are presented for six cases which were identified as the most interesting of those sampled by the T-28 during SESAME. Techniques which were used to reduce the data are described in detail. Formats by which researchers can access these data on magnetic tapes are given. For a detailed summary of the T-28 flight operations and equipment status during Project SESAME, the reader is referred to the SESAME 1979 data users' guide edited by Barnes (1981). A report presenting some of the measurements obtained during the experiment is under preparation by personnel at SDSMT. A description of the equipment on board the aircraft is given in Johnson and Smith (1980) and in Heymsfield and Parrish (1979).
