Title
Field Observations of the Kinematics of Hailstones
Abstract
This report studies the kinematic behavior of naturally falling hailstones using stroboscopic photography in a mobile van. The experiment is described and the results concerning hailstone shape and dimensions, velocity, and rotation rate are presented. The results of the experiment may have implications in hailfall instrumentation, doppler radar studies and hailstone growth models. They are most important to programs currently studying hailfall.
