Abstract

The GOES-10 NOAA/NESDIS Fog Depth Product (GIF) is one of several satellite products collected as part of the Dynamics and Chemistry of Marine Stratocumulus Phase-II: Entrainment Studies (DYCOMS-II) project field catalog operated by the National Center For Atmospheric Research/Earth Observing Laboratory (NCAR/EOL: http://catalog.eol.ucar.edu/dycoms). The experimental fog depth displayed in the color enhanced image is an estimate of the cloud layer thickness based on the IR brightness difference between GOES channel 2 (3.9 micron) and channel 4 (10.7 micron). The products cover the period from 3-31 July 2001 (except 27-30 July) and cover the DYCOMS-II region and the South West United States (25-42 N and 95-130 W). The products are available hourly during the night (03-12 UTC). The products were acquired from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS) Office of Research and Applications. All images are in gif format.
