Title

Modeling global oceanic inter-annual variability (1958-1997): Simulation design and model-data evaluation

Abstract

The goals of this paper are two fold. First, to present the data sets and simulation design used for hindcasting inter-annual oceanic variability for the period 1958-1997. Second, to evaluate relative to observations the magnitude and phasing of the resulting simulated oceanic variability and its dependence on the model climatological state. The seasonal cycle and dynamical processes governing the oceanic response to variable wind and buoyancy forcing in the model will be explored in more detail in later papers.
