Abstract

This data set is a composite of radiosondes and dropsondes collected from 2 dropsonde and 6 radiosonde platforms (see Section 2.3) during the Impact of Typhoons on the Ocean in the Pacific (ITOP) 2010 project with data collected from 1 August 2010 through 31 October 2010. This project was conducted in the western Pacific Ocean. This composite contains a total of 1753 high resolution soundings. Included are dropsondes from the DOTSTAR Astra Jet (94 dropsondes) and two United States Air Force C-130 (683 dropsondes) as well as radiosonde data from the US National Weather Service sites in Guam, Chuuk, Koror, Majuro, Ponape and Yap (976 radiosondes). All soundings are provided at the highest possible resolution (i.e., the 'native' resolution) and were quality controlled by NCAR/EOL. Data are available in the NCAR/EOL Sounding Composite Format (columnar ASCII).
