PSEA-10-01 Zooplankton abundance
102.275
This dataset contains zooplankton abundance measurements for selected stations during U.S Coast Guard Cutter Polar Sea cruise PSEA1001. Samples were collected with a 0.5 m diameter, 64 micro-m mesh ring net towed vertically from just above the bottom to the surface. These were preserved in buffered formalin and counted. All large copepods and chaetognaths in each sample were identified and enumerated. Smaller zooplankton were subsampled with a Stemple pipet and identified and enumerated. Data are presented as number of organisms per square meter of water column. Because of ice, no current meter was used. Volume filtered was calculated from the net mouth open area and the depth over which the net was hauled. There was no clogging because of the very low phytoplankton abundance (Chl a less than 0.6 mg/m3). Data were collected during the Bering Sea Ecosystem Study-Bering Sea Integrated Ecosystem Research Program (BEST-BSIERP). BEST-BSIERP together are the Bering Sea project.
